"Hello, everyone, and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look.
Some time may pass between every time we look at a ThinkPad, even though there's like a lot of them now and a lot of different separate subseries of ThinkPads now."
"But every time we do get one in for a test from Lenovo, it's always a pleasure.
Because even though that you might consider the overall form factor, the construction, the ideal like sort of structure and thinking behind it, well, you might consider that to be conservative and, you know, reluctant to change drastically, it is also really the comfort of home."
"Because every time you pick up a ThinkPad, it's the same that when you pick up a good sort of MacBook Air, is that these are solidly constructed, well thought out, and every single decision made around both the software and hardware experience is made to make things easier, not harder."
"And you can tell just by picking up this brand new, this is the X13 Gen6.
Now, obviously, like with a lot of ThinkPad models, these are in very different SKUs.
So there is a range of Intel SKUs, there's a range of AMD SKUs, and within those AMD SKUs, there are selectable upgrades or downgrades depending on how much or how little you want to spend on a particular computer."
"It is so confusing that when Lenovo wanted to send over this machine they sent over a link for the Intel Core Ultra version, and they sent me the AMD version.
So maybe this is like just a little cue to sort of downscale the amount of options that every single user or consumer has."
"But even still, it's obviously a fascinating, lovely device to know, even though that it isn't exciting or new.
So it's still this carbon fiber weave, it picks up fingerprints a little bit easier than I think previous generations have, or at least a couple of generations ago, but it's still fantastic."
"They've put this little webcam array here on this little bar in order to use more of the screen area, I love that.
We'll get to that in a little bit.
There is a good range of I.O."
"On a laptop this small, we still get full-size HDMI, Thunderbolt ports, audio jack, a regular USB.
The only thing that I would have possibly liked is an SD card reader of some sort, which we don't get."
"I think that's a little bit of a shame, but still, it's a serious machine and, you know, the I.O. selection is good.
This ThinkPad keyboard has been among the best for as long as I've been working here and as long as I can remember."
"The trackpad, while a little bit small, is still amongst the best that I've tried ever since working here and possibly also longer than that.
It still has the buttons up top and the middle button as well, and it still has the mouse nipple, which I've been told time and again is used a lot by business folks."
"And I've also been shown one particular sort of stance, which is this.
I have no idea why someone would stand like this, but apparently this is very popular in the business world.
Maybe they are controlling a PowerPoint like this and not just using the trackpad."
"I'm not sure, but it's still there.
And we can also, I think, possibly glean that this little nicely placed red dot is also for legacy reasons, because people will immediately look at this and think, oh, that's a ThinkPad."
"And people associate the ThinkPad with quality and reliability.
And by now, these small red accents that you find around this otherwise black chassis are very iconic.
That's why you don't get rid of them."
"Further, but I don't really believe this use case.
It was just shown to me and I thought it was funny.
It still does this, though, which I do think is nice because, I mean, you're not going to use this all that much, but it is very nice to know that when it is this and it's wobbling around, then it's not dangling up against the extremities of the hinge."
"You know it can do this, so you're not as worried when it is like this or like this.
I think that's one of the reasons.
Reliability is one of the most important aspects of a ThinkPad."
"So inside here, we find that there is, as I said, a lot of SKUs.
This top AMD model is equipped with a Ryzen AI7 Pro 350 CPU, but you can also get it in a range of Intel Core Ultras if you want.
In this version, you get 32 gigs of LPDDR5X RAM, which right now with RAM prices is probably half of the cost of the computer."
"You can also have this particular version with a 512 gig M.2 SSD, or you can upgrade it to a terabyte M.2 SSD.
The panel is a little point of contention because it's a 13.3-inch WUXGA 1200p display.
It is an IPS display, not an OLED."
"I thought that was kind of weird.
It is 100% sRGB covering, though, so I don't think it's that bad.
And you get a bunch of other luxuries as well, such as the construction that I just mentioned, the lovely Dolby Atmos speakers, which have much more volume than you would expect."
"It's all good, and the 41-watt-hour battery inside will also take you through most, if not all, of a busy workday.
There is no big leaps here.
I would have loved to see an OLED panel."
"I couldn't see it when I went to Lenovo's SKU selector and I tried to select an OLED panel, but I couldn't.
I thought that was strange.
But still, it also wasn't as expensive as I was expecting initially, given the state of component shortages and prices currently."
"So maybe there's something to do with that.
Point being, this is a ThinkPad.
You know what it is, you know what it can do, and it's unsurprising for me to tell you that it does these things extremely well."
"So we'll be reviewing this.
I'll see you guys on the next one."
